Shinfield
Shinfield is a village in roughly the way a film set is a street, which is fitting now that it has a film studio. The Anglo-Saxons named it after floodwater glinting on the meadows, and the housebuilders spent the early two-thousands proving that any meadow can hold a cul-de-sac if it believes in itself. Somewhere among the new estates, a European weather centre works out whether the continent gets rain next week, from a place Reading still files under the bit past the M4. The village green survived all of it, like the one resident who never got the memo.
