Winnersh
Winnersh is a village the motorways drew for you, with the M4 along the bottom, the A329(M) along the top and the River Loddon doing the left-hand margin. Its best-known spot is a crossroads that has been a farm, a tractor dealer, a crisp factory and Hewlett-Packard's British headquarters, and has settled, as most of Berkshire eventually does, into a Sainsbury's. Locals call it a village with a straight face, which is brave for one link in the unbroken chain of houses between Reading and Wokingham. Merryhill Green used to be next door until they put a motorway through it, which tells you who wins the arguments round here.
