Whitton, London

London's old cabbage patch, now growing semis·Greater London·London

Whitton is the bit of Twickenham that a 1930s arterial road cut loose, and it has been building a personality out of the snub ever since. It took an MP writing to Royal Mail before the houses on the Hounslow edge could put Whitton on their own envelopes, and some of them still get Hounslow postcodes anyway. The big house in the middle trained the Army's bandsmen for generations and has now gone to a private school, which tells you exactly which way the place would like to be filed.
