What are the schools like in Whitton, London?

For anyone buying or renting in Whitton, London.

The schools in Whitton are very good, and that's what most of the house price is paying for. Every graded school in the borough is good or better. Four in ten are outstanding. Primary maths results are strong. It's the one line on the Whitton bill that nobody resents paying.

Around here, the nine state primaries averaged about 107 in the end-of-primary maths tests. The Department for Transport's 2019 model put the nearest primary about nine minutes' walk from the typical home. Nelson Primary has been teaching Whitton's children since 1911, longer than most of the houses around it have stood. Bishop Perrin Church of England Primary opened in 1936, about when the semis were going up around it. Heathfield runs infant and junior schools side by side, so a family can do seven years of drop-offs at one gate.

The area's four state secondaries had an average Attainment 8 score of about 56. Twickenham School and Turing House School are the two in Whitton itself. The same 2019 model put the nearest secondary about 13 minutes' walk away, which is short enough that the school run gets handed over to the child at eleven and never handed back.

Ofsted has graded 25 settings across Richmond upon Thames, and all 25 are good or better. Ten of them are outstanding and none is rated requires improvement or inadequate. A clean sheet across the whole borough leaves parents arguing over which outstanding school to pick, which is one of the better arguments a parent can have.

The council allocates places under its published admissions rules, so buying near Nelson Primary or Turing House does not, on its own, get your child a place. Faith schools such as Bishop Perrin and St Edmund's Catholic Primary set their own criteria on top of that. The council's admissions pages list how far the last child offered a place lived from each school in past years, and that's worth reading for the exact street you're looking at. People who bought a three-bed in Whitton because it was "near the good primary" sometimes find that near and in are different things.

Schools are one of Whitton's real strengths, with every graded school in the borough good or better. The hard part is getting into the one you want.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
