Watford

A London suburb that kept its own postcode·Hertfordshire·East of England

Watford is the town Londoners use as the edge of the known world, which is rich, given how many of them end up living here once they notice the edge has a fast train back to Euston. It was once the biggest printing town on the planet; the presses left, Wetherspoon put its head office here, and the town still supplies the nation's mornings, just a different part of them. Leavesden gets the wizard tourists, Vicarage Road gets Elton John, and everyone else gets the long high street Defoe was already calling the town's only street, now with a shopping centre bolted on. People move here for the commute and stay because by then they've stopped pretending they ever wanted the countryside.
