Totnes
Totnes is what happens when a Norman market town gets colonised by people who left London to find themselves and then charged everyone else for the privilege of watching. It had its own currency for twelve years, which tells you everything about the local relationship between idealism and the exchange rate. The place is genuinely beautiful, sat on a hill above a tidal river with more listed buildings than sense, and it will still sell you a crystal on the way up Fore Street. Devon's other market towns get on with market-town business; Totnes decided it was a movement.
