Ipplepen
Ipplepen is a Devon village that has spent the last two thousand years being quietly more interesting than it looks, and has never once mentioned it. There is a Roman settlement under the fields and a bungalow estate over the top of it, which is roughly the deal here: something genuinely old, something extremely 1970s, and a hedge between them. It is the kind of place where the church is Grade I and the excitement is a parked tractor. People who move here from Torbay call it peaceful, which is the word you use when you have decided to be happy about the silence.
