Kingskerswell
Kingskerswell spent most of its modern life as a traffic jam with houses attached, and then the bypass opened and the village had to work out what it was for. It turns out the answer is bungalows, a very old church, and the quiet satisfaction of watching Torquay-bound holiday traffic sail past somebody else's front room. The Iron Age lot on Milber Down picked this valley for the same reason everyone since has: it sits neatly between two places you might actually want to go. Nobody moves here for the drama, which is the entire point of moving here.
