Buckfastleigh
Buckfastleigh is a mill town that ran out of mills and decided to become a day out instead, which is why a place this size supports a steam railway, a butterfly farm, an otter sanctuary and a tomb built to keep a dead squire in the ground. Most of the traffic on the A38 goes past it at seventy without ever learning any of that. The town seems content with the arrangement, having spent two centuries watching wool, paper and leather leave and concluding that visitors are easier to keep than industries. Say the name out loud and you have used thirteen letters without repeating one, which is the sort of distinction a town claims when the mills have gone.
