Swanley

Once London's garden, now its overflow car park·Kent·South East England

Swanley started life as a railway junction and has never really stopped behaving like one. The new town outgrew the old one so completely that the original had to be renamed Swanley Village, which is the town equivalent of being moved into the granny annexe. The Asda car park covers the site of a hospital where Victorian Londoners came to get over the city, and that is still roughly the arrangement: Kent on the council tax bill, south-east London in every other respect, and junction 3 of the M25 for when either gets too much.
