Petworth
Petworth is a town that grew up against the wall of a very large house and still behaves a bit like the staff quarters. The National Trust gets Capability Brown's park and the day-trippers who come for it. The town gets the spot where two A-roads meet in its middle and squeeze through streets built long before anyone had a lorry to squeeze. The railway left decades ago and the old station now does bed and breakfast, which is more use than it ever managed as a station.
