Norbiton
Norbiton is the part of Kingston people drive through on the way to the hospital, mostly without noticing they've left Kingston. It got its name the same way Surbiton did, from the other bank of the Hogsmill, and has spent the centuries since watching Surbiton get the reputation. The novelist George Meredith rented a house here, took against all the new building, and was gone within three years, making him the first recorded objector to development in Norbiton and nowhere near the last. Before him, the owner of the big house built a dairy shaped like an Indian temple and went bankrupt, so the local standard for sensible home improvement was set early and set low.
