Surbiton

A town that waits for the 7:42·Greater London·London

Surbiton exists because Kingston turned the railway away to protect its coaching inns, and Surbiton has been thanking it from the fast train to Waterloo ever since. The town was built around a station, which tells you who lives here and roughly what time they leave the house. Someone once built championship-winning racing cars in a garage on Hollyfield Road; today's resident keeps the bikes in there and saves the sprinting for the platform.
