Hammersmith
Hammersmith is the bit of West London most people know only from the flyover, on their way to somewhere they think is nicer. It has two Tube stations both called Hammersmith on opposite sides of a gyratory, and newcomers learn the layout by getting off at the wrong one. Walk down to the river at Upper Mall, though, and the place stops apologising for itself, which is roughly when the people who moved here for the commute start claiming they came for the view.
