Hamble-le-Rice

A yacht club with a postcode·Hampshire·South East England

Hamble-le-Rice is a village that measures status in mooring fees. The BBC set a soap opera here in the 1980s about yachting money and people behaving badly, and the only far-fetched part was anyone finding time for the affairs between waxing the hull and complaining about the price of a berth. The Square looks like a postcard; the waterfront looks like a car park for expensive things that float and quietly depreciate. Come for the sailing, stay because you have now spent too much on the boat to ever admit it was a mistake.
