Bursledon
Bursledon is two villages sharing a postcode and not much else: a riverside of boatyards and old brick cottages that still behaves as if Howards' Way is filming, and a spread of late-twentieth-century estates whose main concern is the M27. The windmill and the brickworks have been preserved with loving care, which is more than anyone managed for the quiet once the motorway was run across the Hamble. People buy for the water and commute by car, and for most of them the only boat in the house is on a tea towel.
