Locks Heath

Where strawberry fields became cul-de-sacs·Hampshire·South East England

Locks Heath used to grow strawberries, then it grew housing estates, and the pubs named after strawberry varieties are the only clue anything happened here before the cul-de-sacs arrived. Back in 1967 an architectural historian took one look at the place and wrote that there was no point trying to describe the resultant mess, which remains the most honest sentence anyone has ever committed to Locks Heath. It is safe, it is comfortable, and it has the pulse rate of a Sunday afternoon that refuses to end.
