Enfield Town
Enfield Town is the bit of north London that still thinks it's a Middlesex market town, and it has St Andrew's and Gentleman's Row to back the claim. London swallowed it between the wars, and it has spent every year since acting as if it hadn't noticed. The world's first cash machine was installed at the local Barclays and opened by Reg Varney, which may be the most Enfield sentence ever written. The Tudor palace is now best remembered as the name of a shopping centre, and nobody here seems to mind.
