Camden Town has been selling teenage rebellion to tourists since the markets opened in the seventies, and in 2017 the rebellion finally got a head office when Dr Martens moved in. The food market on Inverness Street held out for a century before its last vegetable stall lost to the novelty T-shirts. On Sunday afternoons the tube station gets so packed it stops letting you catch a train out of it, which is the nearest Camden has ever come to a door policy. Alan Bennett let a woman live in a van on his drive in Gloucester Crescent for years, and it is still the only rent deal round here anyone has called generous.
