Witney

A medieval market town buried under cul-de-sacs·Oxfordshire·South East England

Witney made its name weaving blankets and has spent the years since tucking in people who work in Oxford, mostly the ones who would sooner sleep a bus ride away from Oxford's prices. The Butter Cross and the old Blanket Hall still hold the middle together, while the estates that did all the actual growing wrap round them like a well-padded mattress protector. Buyers turn up wanting a Cotswold market town and find a very comfortable commuter town that still holds a market on Thursdays, which, for most of them, turns out to be what they wanted all along.
