Is Winslow, Buckinghamshire a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Winslow, Buckinghamshire.

Winslow is a safe town, and its crime rate comes in a little below the county around it. Recorded crime is slightly lower than the Buckinghamshire average. Joblessness is close to zero. Overcrowded homes are rare. What matters here is how unremarkable the numbers are, much more than any one of them.

Thames Valley Police recorded 323 crimes in Winslow in the year to May 2026, a published rate of about 62 per 1,000 residents. That is roughly 5% below the Buckinghamshire average. In a town this size a handful of incidents can open or close a gap like that, so the fair reading is that Winslow is level with the county or just under it.

Side by side, the two published rates for the year are about 62 crimes per 1,000 people in Winslow and about 65 across Buckinghamshire. The gap is small. What both figures show is that crime here is ordinary, and nothing in them should keep a buyer up at night.

At the 2021 census, Winslow's output areas averaged about 3,370 people per square kilometre, the density of a compact town core with streets of houses around it. Unemployment was about 2%, and about 2% of households were overcrowded. That describes a working, roomy, owner-occupied town. It does not explain the crime figures in either direction, but it is the kind of place they describe.

The mix of offences needs reading with care, because the totals are small enough that a few incidents move a share by several points. In the same year, violence and sexual offences made up about 40% of Winslow's recorded crime, against about 35% across England and Wales. That category covers a wide legal range, including common assault where nobody was hurt, and it is the biggest category almost everywhere. Other theft made up about 17% locally against about 7% nationally, the one share that really stands out. Anti-social behaviour was about 12% against 16%, and criminal damage and arson about 6% against 7%. Public order was about 5% against 7%, and drugs about 5% against 4%. Next year's handful of incidents could rearrange that list. To see where reports actually land, look up the street on the police's own online crime map, which plots each incident to an approximate point near where it happened.

What happens after a report is a separate question, and it is decided across the whole force. Thames Valley Police charges a suspect in about 9% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts it 37th of 42 forces in England and Wales. About 37% of its cases close with no suspect identified. Those are force-wide figures for the twelve months to May 2026, with nothing in them specific to Winslow. In this part of Buckinghamshire you are protected mainly by how little crime there is, and much less by what the police do once it happens.

Winslow is a safe place to live by any ordinary measure. The only weakness in the picture belongs to the police force that covers it, and the town itself shows none.
