Templecombe

A village whose big idea was reversing·Somerset·South West England

Templecombe is where the Knights Templar set up shop in 1185, and the most exciting thing to happen since was Time Team turning up in 1996 to find out where exactly they'd put it. It has a railway station that trains once had to reverse into, which tells you most of what you need to know about how the place approaches forward motion. The largest employer builds sonar systems for submarines, so the village's chief export is the ability to detect things nobody else can hear, which is either poetry or a coincidence. Come for the Blackmore Vale, stay because the A357 doesn't really go anywhere else.
