Sticker, Cornwall

The Cornwall that postcards drive past·Cornwall·South West England

Sticker is a former mining village that kept the name and gave up the mining, and the name is the bit people remember. Three miles from St Austell, close enough to the coast to smell it on a good day, far enough that nobody in Sticker has ever had to queue behind a campervan to get home. The football club plays at Burngullow Lane, the bungalows sit in rows with room to park two cars and a boat nobody uses, and the whole place has the settled air of somewhere that stopped trying to impress anyone around 1978 and turned out to be right. If you want a village with a delicatessen and a story about itself, keep driving toward the coast and pay for the privilege.
