Sidmouth
Sidmouth is a Regency seaside town that has spent two hundred years politely declining to change, and it has got very good at it. The Duke of Kent came here for the sea air in 1819 and was dead within the month, which the town has somehow turned into a tourism anecdote rather than a warning. What is left is red cliffs, painted Georgian fronts, a beach the sea keeps trying to take back, and a pace of life that suits people who have finished being in a hurry. Come for the coast path, stay because nobody here will ever ask what you do for a living.
