Norton Fitzwarren

A village in permanent denial about Taunton·Somerset·South West England

Norton Fitzwarren has spent most of its existence being the place just outside Taunton where something else was happening: a hillfort, a canal boat lift, a cider works, a railway junction with four platforms and a habit of catastrophe. All of it closed, and the village got new houses built over the top, which is the most Somerset ending imaginable. What is left is a proper village with a Church of All Saints, a hillfort on the slope above it, and an estate of modern semis where the goods yard used to be, all of it two miles from a town that assumes you are basically a suburb. Norton Fitzwarren has never once agreed with that.
