Monkton Heathfield

A village being built out of Taunton's spare rooms·Somerset·South West England

Monkton Heathfield is Taunton's overspill given a village's name and a straight face, a place where the Saxon monks got there first and the volume housebuilders got there most. The old bit has a church, a canal bridge and a mill that burned down so often the insurers must have kept a chair by the door. The new bit has cul-de-sacs named after the hedgerows they replaced. Somewhere in the middle is a roundabout doing more work than the parish council ever has.
