Northleach
Northleach is the Cotswold town the coach parties drive straight past on the way to Bourton-on-the-Water, and the people who live here would like it kept that way. Medieval wool merchants built it a church fit for a cathedral city, then the wool money left and nobody got round to building the city. The grandest building in town that isn't a church is the old house of correction, and that is about as much drama as Northleach has managed since. You get the honey-coloured postcard without the selfie sticks, and you pay for it in car journeys to nearly everything else.
