Yes. New Haw is safe, and a little safer than the borough around it. Its crime rate is below the Runnymede average. Hardly anyone is out of work. Very few homes are overcrowded. What crime there is tends to be the everyday sort, and there is less of it than in the surrounding borough.
Police.uk records, which come from Surrey Police, put New Haw's crime rate at about 80 offences per 1,000 residents in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, roughly 9% below the average for the local authority. Over those twelve months that came to 369 recorded crimes across the village's neighbourhood areas. These are the published rate and count. The rate is worked out against a statistical-area population, so it will not match a sum done with the village's own headcount.
Runnymede's own published rate over the same year was about 87 crimes per 1,000 residents, against about 80 in New Haw. The gap is modest. A village that borders Addlestone, Byfleet, Weybridge, Ottershaw, West Byfleet and Woodham ends up somewhere near the middle of its neighbours, and on this measure it comes in slightly better.
New Haw has about 1,730 residents per square kilometre on average, which is suburban rather than urban. Unemployment stood at about 2% and overcrowded homes at about 3%. These figures describe the kind of place this is, settled and mostly employed, and they say nothing about what causes crime here or anywhere else. Several aeroplanes are believed to have crashed in New Haw in the early decades of the 20th century. Modern trouble here stays nearer the ground.
The crime mix over the same twelve months comes with a warning. The totals are small, so a few incidents can move any share by several points. Violence and sexual offences made up about 30% of New Haw's recorded crime, against about 35% across England and Wales. That category covers a wide legal range, including common assault where nobody was hurt, and it is the biggest category almost everywhere. Anti-social behaviour was about 22% against 16% nationally, and public order offences about 11% against 7%. Criminal damage and arson came to about 8% against 7%, and vehicle crime about 4% against 5%. Shoplifting was about 12% against 8% nationally. The Broadway is the village's one shopping parade, so it takes only a few incidents there to push that share up. None of these shares is settled enough to describe the village.
What happens after a crime is reported depends on Surrey Police as a force, and none of these figures is New Haw's own. Over the year to May 2026, Surrey Police charged a suspect in about 11% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which put it 30th of 42 forces. About 36% of its cases were closed without a suspect being identified. Those numbers say how likely a case is to be solved once it reaches the police. They say nothing about how likely you are to need to report one, which is the crime rate's job.
New Haw is a safe place to live, a notch below its own borough on crime. Its problems are the small, ordinary kind found in most villages near a motorway.
