Leatherhead

Surrey's crossroads, still mostly used for crossing·Surrey·South East England

Leatherhead is the town Ashtead pops into for errands and never brings up at dinner. Alfred the Great left it to his son in his will, the first recorded case of someone being handed Leatherhead and told to make the best of it. These days the offices outnumber the pubs by enough to show who the high street was really built for. The old Goblin factory site now belongs to an oil company, which is about as close to a fairy tale as Surrey gets.
