Tadworth

Suburbia that bought itself a heath to hide behind·Surrey·South East England

Tadworth calls itself a village, which takes some nerve with a dual carriageway down one side and a motorway junction at the bottom of the hill. It is Surrey for the postal address and London fare zone 6 for the train ticket, and nobody local has ever filed a complaint about that. Churchill and Lloyd George played golf down the road at Walton Heath, the Derby is run just over the fence, and the branch line runs out of track at Tattenham Corner, which suits a place whose idea of a long journey is the eighteenth hole.
