Greenhithe, Kent

A Thames village that answers to a shopping centre·Kent·South East England

Greenhithe has a railway station named after a shopping centre, which settles where the high street ranks. For a few centuries the Thames paid the bills here, shipping chalk up to London and training naval cadets on old wooden warships moored off the shore, and the village was once handed the Cutty Sark and politely passed it on to Greenwich. The river is mostly the view from the Ingress Park balconies now. The name means green landing place, and the busiest landing place round here these days is a shopping centre with a food court.
