Galleywood

A Chelmsford suburb with a field for an alibi·Essex·East of England

Galleywood has been calling itself a village since the thirteenth century, and the fields around its edges work hard to keep that story going, because the middle is mostly estates from the sixties and seventies. It is countryside in the way a garden centre is countryside, which suits people who wanted green views and a Chelmsford postcode and would rather not have to choose. The Roman road through the middle was built to get people to Chelmsford, and two thousand years later everyone still uses it for that.
