Doddinghurst

Brentwood's postcode, kept at arm's length·Essex·East of England

Doddinghurst began as the wood of a Saxon called Dudda, and a thousand years later it is still where people go to be left alone, only now with a bungalow and two cars on the drive. Most of it went up after the war for people who wanted a Brentwood postcode without Brentwood's traffic, and the village has spent the decades since keeping the high street a careful three miles away. Its most famous son built a career playing video games indoors, which round here counts as following local custom.
