Broadbridge Heath

Horsham's suburb, with a parish council for dignity·West Sussex·South East England

Broadbridge Heath is Horsham's spare room, the place the town keeps the things it needs but doesn't want in the front parlour, and the post still goes out addressed to Horsham. The Army ran its bomb disposal school here after the war, and when the soldiers left, the site became a supermarket and a leisure centre, which is about the most honest summary of post-war England ever built. The heath itself was fenced off and sold in Victorian times and later covered in cul-de-sacs, so the village is named after the one thing nobody living here has ever seen. Shelley was born just up the road and went off to write about wild, untamed nature, which to be fair was still available locally at the time.
