Bishopstoke

Older than Eastleigh, and quietly resents it·Hampshire·South East England

Bishopstoke had a thousand-year head start. It was here in 948, it made the Domesday Book, and then a railway turned up a mile west, spawned a town called Eastleigh out of nothing, and quietly deleted the older village from its own station sign. These days it is the calm, green, nothing-really-happens end of the map, which is precisely what the people moving here are paying a premium for, whatever they tell you at dinner parties.
