Bembridge

Where the boats outnumber the reasons to leave·Isle of Wight·South East England

Bembridge is where Isle of Wight money goes to sit down. The village occupies the island's easternmost corner with the air of somewhere that got there first and would rather nobody else bothered, which is easier to sustain when the only way in involves a boat and a decision. It has a windmill, a harbour full of things people own but rarely sail, and a level of quiet that reads as peace to anyone over sixty and as a medical emergency to anyone under thirty. The kind of place you retire to, not the kind you escape to.
