Wootton (Isle of Wight)

Where the island parks its bungalows and its boats·Isle of Wight·South East England

Queen Victoria picked this stretch of the island to get away from people, and Wootton has been honouring her wishes ever since. It is where the Isle of Wight keeps its bungalows, set around a creek full of boats that leave their moorings about twice a summer. The car ferry lands round the corner at Fishbourne, so the mainland is always close enough to escape to, and the whole appeal is that nobody bothers.
