Is Addlestone a safe area?

For anyone buying or renting in Addlestone.

Yes, in the most average way possible. Its crime rate is almost exactly the same as the rest of Runnymede's. The mix of offences looks like the national mix. Unemployment is low. Nobody moves to Addlestone for the thrill, and the crime figures agree.

Police.uk recorded 1,522 crimes in Addlestone in the year from June 2025 to May 2026, a published rate of about 88 per 1,000 residents. That rate is a published figure, calculated on its own statistical population, so don't try to work it out by dividing the count by the town's headcount. Nothing in the record makes Addlestone stand out from the borough around it.

Over the same year, the rate across Runnymede was about 87 per 1,000, against Addlestone's 88. The gap is close to nothing, and a few incidents either way could close it. Addlestone is the borough's largest town and its administrative centre, so being level with the borough average is about what you'd expect.

As for the kind of neighbourhood behind those numbers, Addlestone averages about 6,100 residents per square kilometre, which is town density and well above the surrounding green belt. Unemployment was 3% at the 2021 Census, and 4% of households were overcrowded. It's built up and most people are in work, with a busy road network in every direction.

The crime mix tracks the national picture closely. Violence and sexual offences made up 36% of the total in Addlestone, against 35% across England and Wales. That category covers a wide legal range, including common assault where nobody was hurt, and it's the largest category almost everywhere. Anti-social behaviour was 16% here and 16% nationally. Criminal damage and arson came to 7% in both, and other theft 7% against 7%. Shoplifting was slightly below the national share at 7% against 8%. The one category where Addlestone runs clearly ahead is public order, at 10% against 7% nationally. That covers people causing alarm or distress in public, and in a town where the M25, the A-roads and Brooklands traffic all meet, it comes down to people being loud in the wrong place. For your own street, look at the police.uk crime map for that street, because the town-wide rate tells you very little about one road.

What happens after a crime is reported is a different question from how often crime happens. Surrey Police charges a suspect in about 11% of cases, against about 12% nationally, which puts the force 30th of 42 in England and Wales. In about 36% of cases the force closes the investigation without identifying a suspect. Those figures cover the whole county and measure what Surrey Police does once a crime has already happened, so they tell you nothing about how likely one is in Addlestone.

Addlestone is middling on safety: it's as safe as the borough it runs, and no more remarkable than that.
