What are the schools like in Wooburn?

For anyone buying or renting in Wooburn.

Schools around Wooburn are good, and the nearest primary is an easy walk from most front doors. Most of the county's graded schools are good or better. About one in five is outstanding. Secondary means a bus or a lift. The village primary has a church in its name, and the admissions rules may have one too.

Buckinghamshire has 94 schools with a published Ofsted grade, and 80 of them are rated good or better, which is well over four in five. Nineteen are outstanding, 11 require improvement and three are inadequate. The county has many more settings that have not been graded yet, and they are left out of that count. It is a high bar for a county list. The less flattering end of it is small enough that most families never meet it.

Close to home, St Paul's Church of England Combined School, Wooburn, carries the village's name, and Wooburn Green Primary School serves the green end of the parish. Places at both are allocated under the admissions rules Buckinghamshire Council publishes each year, so living near a school doesn't secure a place there. For St Paul's, it is worth reading the school's own policy for any faith criteria, which can matter as much as distance. Further out are Juniper Hill School, the Carrington infant and junior schools, and the Tylers Green first and middle schools, so parents here have more than one primary to choose from.

The Department for Transport's 2019 journey-time modelling puts the nearest primary nine minutes' walk from the typical Wooburn home, or seven by car. The nearest secondary is 26 minutes on foot, 19 by public transport and 10 by car. The public transport times are the ones most likely to have changed since 2019, as services get cut. In Wooburn the school run stays a walk until about age eleven, and then it becomes a timetable.

None of the primaries named here is a secondary school. Older children leave the village for school, and the 19-minute public transport figure has to cover a bus service that runs about twice an hour at peak. That is the part of Wooburn's school picture that comes down to logistics.

For a family, the schools are among the easiest things to get right in Wooburn, with a walkable primary and a county list that is mostly good or better.
