Wimbledon, London

Famous for the tennis, expensive for everything else·Greater London·London

Wimbledon is two places sharing one name and one hill, and the people at the top would like that cleared up. The village by the Common has riding stables and the house prices that go with them, while the town down on the Broadway has the station, the shopping centre and a lot of people who tell friends at dinner that they live in Wimbledon Village. Every summer the world turns up for a fortnight of tennis, and the locals spend the other fifty weeks explaining that they have never once queued for it.
