Wickham Bishops
Wickham Bishops lost its railway station in 1964 and kept the timber viaduct, which is now a protected monument to the idea of going somewhere. The village has spent the years since sitting between Maldon and Witham and refusing to admit it belongs to either. Big detached houses with long drives, bungalows for the people who downsized without moving more than a road away, and a half-hourly bus that most of the residents have never met. People move here to get away from Witham, then drive into Witham for anything involving a train.
