Hatfield Peverel
Hatfield Peverel is the village other villages drive to, because it has a station and they don't. It runs alongside the A12 between Boreham and Witham, close enough that the traffic counts as a neighbour, and its dairy factory was flattened in 2016 so the site could become what every spare acre of Essex eventually becomes: houses. The name promises a heathery clearing in the forest and a Norman knight. What turns up is a train to Liverpool Street and a platform full of people from Danbury.
