Snodland
Snodland sounds like a sneeze, and it spent a couple of centuries quarrying lime and pressing paper so that other places could look impressive, London's bridges included. Its oddest listed building is a fake ruin put up around 1850, which takes some nerve in a town that was busy digging real holes in itself. The old quarry is houses now, and the fast train will get you to St Pancras at rush hour but would rather you didn't ask about the rest of the day.
