What are the schools like in Snodland?

For anyone buying or renting in Snodland.

Snodland's schools are one of the better reasons to move here. The primaries are a short walk from most front doors. The secondary results hold up. Nine in ten schools across Kent are rated good or better. Finding a decent school isn't the hard part. Getting a place at the one you picked is.

There are seven mainstream state primaries in the area, and their pupils average a Key Stage 2 maths score of about 104. Snodland Church of England Primary School carries the town's name, and St Katherine's School & Nursery is the other long-standing primary in town. Valley Invicta Primary School at Holborough Lakes serves the newer housing built on the old quarry. The average walk to a primary is about 10 minutes. Primary choice around here is decided less by league tables than by which side of the High Street you bought on.

The area has three mainstream state secondaries, with a pupil-weighted Attainment 8 score of about 65. The Holmesdale School is the town's own secondary, and it is linked with The Malling School through a shared trust. The average walk to a secondary is about 18 minutes, or about 16 by public transport and 9 by car. Teenagers will still claim it's too far to walk. The numbers disagree.

Across Kent as a whole, not just Snodland, Ofsted has graded 221 of 245 settings good or outstanding, which is roughly nine in ten. Of those, 38 are outstanding. At the other end, 21 require improvement and three are inadequate. Many other settings in the county have not yet been graded, and those carry no verdict either way. These are county figures, so they describe the system your child will be in, not the individual school at the end of your road.

None of this guarantees a place. Living near a named school does not secure admission, and the council allocates places by its own published criteria, not by what the estate agent said at the viewing. Check the admissions rules for the specific school and year before you exchange, not after the offer letter arrives. Buyers who assume the nearest school is automatically theirs are the ones who spend September in the car.

Schools are one of Snodland's real strengths: good primaries within walking distance, a secondary in the town and a county system that mostly gets it right. The only catch is the admissions paperwork, and that catches everyone.

Check it for your address. Admission rules and inspection results change from year to year, so before counting on a place, read the latest reports on Ofsted and your council's admissions rules.
