Aylesford

A pretty river village the Medway keeps borrowing back·Kent·South East England

The chroniclers say Horsa died fighting at Aylesford in 455, and nobody without a mortgage has shown the place that much commitment since. The old village looks like the lid of a jigsaw box: a stone bridge, a Norman church, and a friary that keeps part of a saint's head and still draws pilgrims to see it. Walk back from the river and it turns into commuter Kent with a better backstory than it strictly needs. The Medway has opinions about the prettiest streets, and it has acted on them more than once.
