Roche

Cornwall with its work clothes still on·Cornwall·South West England

Roche is named after a rock, which tells you how much competition the rock had. What it has instead is a ruined chapel bolted to a granite outcrop like a hermit's dare, a church older than most counties' ambitions, and a working village that carried on quarrying and building while the rest of Cornwall learned to charge admission for a view. Nobody comes here for the harbour, the surf, or the artisan anything, and the people who live here regard that as the entire point. The coast is close enough to visit and far enough away that nobody has yet tried to sell you a candle about it.
