Pinner's schools are very good. For most families the hard part is getting a place, not finding a good school. Nearly every graded school in the borough is good or outstanding, and one is graded below that. Primary maths results are strong, and the secondaries keep up. Admissions are what keep parents up at night here.
Harrow's eight mainstream state primaries in the area averaged a Key Stage 2 maths score of 109, a strong result. Pinner Wood School and Pinner Park Primary School both carry the village's name. Families who moved for the primaries tend to stay for the secondaries, and the house prices show it. The typical walk to the nearest primary is about 10 minutes on the Department for Transport's 2019 modelling. On that measure, the school run is barely worth getting the car out for.
The three mainstream state secondaries in the area averaged an Attainment 8 score of about 54. Attainment 8 is the government measure built from a pupil's best eight results at sixteen. Nower Hill High School and Pinner High School are the two most local names. The modelled walk to the nearest secondary is about 16 minutes, so most teenagers can get there on foot and will still claim they can't.
Ofsted has graded 29 settings across the London Borough of Harrow, and 28 of them are good or outstanding. Nine are outstanding, one requires improvement and none is inadequate. Another 19 have no published grade yet, which tells you nothing either way about how good they are. Places are given out under Harrow Council's published admissions rules, so buying the house nearest a school does not secure a place there. Get the oversubscription criteria for the specific school from the council and read them alongside the house details. A home's distance from the gate only counts if it beats the distances of everyone else who applied, and in a borough this well graded, plenty of other families have done the same research.
Pinner's schools are one of the best things about living there. Most families can count on a good school, and the real difficulty is winning a place at the one they want.
