Schools are one of the things Huntley gets right, helped by a county that seldom gets marked down. Nearly nine in ten graded schools around here are good or better. The village has its own primary. Getting to a secondary school means a lift. Parents here end up worrying more about who drives the school run than about inspection grades.
Gloucestershire has 156 schools with a published Ofsted grade, and 136 of them are rated good or outstanding, almost nine in ten. Nine are outstanding, 19 require improvement and one is inadequate. Another 95 settings in the county have no published grade yet, so they count neither for nor against it. These figures cover the whole county, so they say nothing about any particular classroom in Huntley.
Huntley Church of England Primary School carries the village's name, and the nearest primary is about seven minutes away by car or a 16-minute walk on the Department for Transport's modelled times from 2019. Being close does not settle anything, because Gloucestershire County Council allocates places by its published admissions rules, and living near a school does not guarantee a place in it. Before committing to a house, check where recent allocations for that school were actually made. The choice around the village includes Tibberton Community Primary School and Early Years and Hartpury Church of England Primary School, along with a group of small Church of England primaries in the surrounding parishes, Redmarley and Ashleworth among them. Families who chose the village for its primary tend to look past it to the next village too, just in case.
Secondary school is further away. On the same 2019 modelled times, the nearest secondary is about 16 minutes by car, 27 by public transport and about 101 minutes on foot. Hartpury College is the secondary-phase name on the local list, and Hartmore School also appears among nearby settings. At a walk of more than an hour and a half, the school run turns into a driving rota, and parents work out who is on it about the time their eldest finishes primary school.
Schools are one of Huntley's strengths: the grades hold up well, and the harder part is getting there, not finding a good school at the end of the journey.
