Guildford
Guildford has a cathedral and a university and still isn't a city, which suits a place that would rather be comfortable than impressive. The Dominican friary eventually became a brewery, and the brewery became the Friary Centre, which is Surrey's whole moral arc told in three planning decisions. The Pilgrims Way skirts the edge of town with no convincing evidence a pilgrim ever used it, and that is the most Guildford thing about Guildford: a lovely name, confidently applied, and nobody checking.
