Felsted

An Essex village that went to boarding school·Essex·East of England

Felsted is either a village with a public school attached or a public school with a village attached, and which one depends on whether you pay the fees. The school has been here since 1564 and Oliver Cromwell sent his sons to it, so even the man who got rid of the king wanted his boys somewhere with decent grounds. The only sugar beet factory in Essex used to stand in the valley next door, though it has since been turned into houses, which is what happens to everything in Essex eventually. Everyone else gets the River Chelmer, a Tudor church and the faint sense that the school's term dates run the calendar.
